I’ve been on exactly four long distance road trips, and not a single one could boast “romantic road trip style” as being included on them. Two with my family as a kid (where I spent the entire trip trying to avoid my siblings) and two with my new family as an adult. Ironically, as an adult I have spent the entire trip wishing I was on an airplane and could get the vacation going. Did no one know driving took a long time to get anywhere?! I only had a few precious days of vacation! Road trips now almost always involve rushed stops at gas stations to pick up supplies, hurried bathroom breaks wherever you can stop and a “hurry up and get there” mentality.
It’s why, I think, when I came across Modcloth’s most recent collection for Spring, aptly inspired by a romantic road trip, that I was so captivated. I loved the idea of a road trip where you could enjoy the company of your companions. Where you could stop at the hole-in-the-wall restaurants for a bite to eat without stressing about having to be somewhere before a traffic jam hit. Where you could pull over and take a look at something that interested you on those “At This Exit” signs without changing your mind and pressing on. Where you could find a cute B&B for the evening before sleeping in the backseat or driving on until you reach the hotel you’ve got reservations at. Let’s face it, in today’s busy world the day of the old road trip are likely gone – at least in my world with kids and vacation days hanging over your head. But I can at least look like I’m enjoying a romantic road trip… Can’t I?
Romantic Road Trip Style : Casual Elegance
Love this look because it’s comfortable and casual but also dressy enough that you can be prepared for whatever pitstops you want to make along the way. Plus, doesn’t a dress just scream romance? The items that make up this look are all reasonably priced too, you can get this whole look for $200!
Romantic Road Trip Style : Relaxed Romance
One of the joys of an impromptu road trip is stopping for what may come across your path – what if that is a hidden secret waterfall? I love these denim shorts, and pairing a bathing suit underneath means you’re always ready for a dip. Add a comfy sweater on top, and stylish yet practical wedges, and you’re ready to go.
