I haven’t had a real Valentine in years. My husband and I have never celebrated Valentines Day. We started dating in January and while I think the first year he got me a panda bear (Amanda, the panda, get it? I was not impressed) every year after that has been celebrating anniversaries. We even went so far as to get married on our “dating” anniversary, so now we celebrate wedding anniversaries as well.
Unfortunately (fortunately?) a little person who lives with us has changed that. Kids love Valentine’s Day because it’s another excuse – a legitimate one – to get candy! Chocolate! My mom always gave us a little bag of candies and treats on Valentine’s Day as a kid, and I’ve started to do the same thing with him. He loves everything from the Hot Wheels Valentines cards to the Paw Patrol tattoos that are in his goodie bags for his daycare friends this year – and oh, did I mention the chocolate? It’s pretty entertaining to see the commercialized, overpriced event through his eyes of telling your friends you like them and eating chocolate. Doesn’t sound so bad to my three-sizes-too-small heart.
In that spirit, I recently shared my favourite of everything pink, red and Valentines on the RefinedSide and I thought I would share here as well.
