I love the Holiday season. I love the smells of cinnamon wafting from the kitchen. I love the sounds of Christmas carols on the radio. I love that there are more parties than you can shake a stick at. And, believe it or not, one of my favourite things about the holiday season is selecting gifts for those on my gift list and then getting to watch their faces as they open their packages on Christmas morning.
One of the worst parts of the season though is how everything can become a really quick drain on your wallet. A twenty dollar donation here for the homeless to have a meal, the forgotten gifts for your secret santa at work, the dresses for holiday parties and blowouts for the fancy ones… It’s not a cheap time of year.
It’s why this year I’m trying to be more frugal in my Christmas shopping. No one in my family, thankfully, is in need of anything to survive. The gifts we buy each other are all to celebrate our relationship and there are always always too many. While I’ll still buy little gifts, I am thinking of perhaps making a little more personal this year with others. There are literally thousands of DIY gift ideas out there. So many so, we’ve been collecting ideas over the year and saving them in a Luxe List : DIY Gifts board on Pinterest for easy reference.
Here are some of my favourite ideas:
DIY Homemade Extracts for Baking – includes printable labels, recipes and links to where you can get the stylish bottles to make your own!
Everyone needs a new oven mitt from time to time (I know I do!) and filling one with some of your favourite gadgets makes a personalized gift that can be extremely inexpensive.
A customized tote bag with something that is meaningful to the recipient is an adorable idea, and this tutorial makes it as easy as 1, 2, 3 to accomplish.
Do you have a go-to DIY gift? A friend told me once that her antipasto is amongst the most sought-after gifts… Wouldn’t that be a nice thing to be known for? Happy DIY Gifting!
