I am unabashedly inspired by Jennifer L. Scott. Scott, author of the popular Madame Chic book series and The Daily Connoisseur blog and vlog, has taken her public platform and turned it into something wonderful. She speaks out about the issues that no one else talks about, and they are usually the ones I want to scream from the top of Saks Fifth Avenue. LOOK PRESENTABLE. TAKE AN INTEREST IN DIFFERENT CULTURES. STOP BEING STUPID.
Okay, so she doesn’t exactly preach that last idea. But she does preach the good virtues of looking presentable, pursuing arts and culture, and living a refined, poised lifestyle. She could say that she’s a super busy mom living in California, so why not wear yoga pants and flip flops everywhere she goes because, who cares? Instead, Jennifer tells the world that she cares, so she wears dresses, ballet flats, and a cardigan.
Her first book, Lessons from Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris, is a girly cult classic, and her second book, At Home with Madame Chic: Becoming a Connoisseur of Daily Life, is firmly ensconced as New York Times bestseller. The third installment, Polish Your Poise with Madame Chic: Lessons in Everyday Elegance, is sure to follow suit.
Polish Your Poise is a personal guide to growth and development. If you want to be a poised, elegant woman, you must always be a poised elegant woman – in private, in public, in good times, and in bad times. I found reading the book to be like meditating – I already knew and agreed with the ideas, but I needed to dive into them further and think about them deeply.
Polish Your Poise does not present Harvard studies, Monmouth University polls, or scientific research. It does contain ideas, tips, and inspirations from the author, who has undergone her own personal journey from casual California girl to elegant American woman, along with experiences and stories from other inspirational sources.
I always recommend Jennifer L. Scott’s writing, both her books and her blog, to college graduates, mums, homeowners, professional women, and pretty much any woman looking to increase the pleasures and joys in everyday life. This new installment in the Madame Chic series sends such a wonderful message, which so many women desperately need.
