One of my favourite things about fall is the kick off of football season. While this may be a stark contrast to my girly side, it’s proof positive for me that being refined means appreciating the things you love in life – whatever they may be – and finding ways to incorporate luxury into them.
Because football season officially kicked off last night and will be all that the men of America will be talking about all weekend, I thought I’d take today to revisit some of the football articles I’ve written in the past and how I find ways to incorporate la vie en luxe into it. First step? If you know nothing about football, check out our Football 101 for Ladies article from a couple of years ago which covers all the basics of what you need to know.
Then here’s the fun part. How to take something that is traditionally associated with Doritos and cheap beer and turn it into a refined experience. I wrote a full article about it last year before the SuperBowl, but here are some la vie en luxe tricks:
Tip #1 : Upgrade your Snacks
Football games tend to mean people getting together to
yell at the TV cheer for their favourite team, and with communal gatherings come required snacks. Don’t just serve chips from a bag or vegetables in a plastic container! We like to upgrade the snacks at our events by replacing the typical with something a little more luxurious.
Think Lamb Sliders with Feta Cheese, Red Onions and Homemade Cumin Mayonnaise (recipe here)
Think Cranberry, Butternut and Brussels Sprout Brie Skillet Nachos (recipe here)
Think Craft/Local Beers Flights (Ideas here)
Tip #2 : Decorate with Manlier Decor
While I like to create football mats, adding “manly” decor can be as easy as incorporating some of the more traditionally male twists into your existing scheme. Here are some of my favourites:
Tip #3 : Wear Classy Team Colours
Sure, you could always wear a jersey. Yes, I sometimes do…. But more often than not I can be found wearing a navy cashmere sweater with a green top underneath to support my team (Go Seahawks!). Want to wear a shirt with your team’s logo? Go ahead, but throw on a cardigan on top. Wear your team colours with pride – and without sacrificing on style or luxurious living.
Are you ready for some football? We sure are – the la vie en luxe way!
