Over at our sister site, What Would Kate Do?, we are BFFs with Jessica and Heather from The Fug Girls. Well… at least we like to pretend we are their BFFs. Its a little more like Lady Edith desperately hoping she and Mary will one day be BFFs (except Heather and Jess are really lovely).
When my royally-obsessed self heard about their new book, The Royal We, I basically nagged Amanda for a month to ask for an ARC. I needed to read this book – now – and obviously before everyone else. Jess said she had planned to send us a copy, and it would arrive on our doorsteps soon. A few weeks later, the mailman delivered the best package filled with a signed book, a Harry & Wills postcard, and a UK/USA pin.
The book is fantastically delightfully wonderful. I posted a full review on WWKD, which is basically a few hundred words telling you to buy it as soon as humanly possible. An all-American girl falls in love with the future King of England and live happily ever after – well, sort of.
The best part of their new book was their mini book tour. The Fug Girls popped into a D.C. bookstore for a reading, Q&A, and book signing. I RSVPed right away and started to pick out my perfect repliKate outfit. It may sound a bit idolizing, but if two girls can turn snarky social commentary on a blog into a book-writing, NYFW-attending, England-visiting, TV-show-watching media empire, then Amanda and I can, too.
I arrived at the bookstore – early, of course. My book was already signed, so I brought two bouquets of flowers instead. (I did bring my book, just in case, but was terrified they would ask for a receipt or proof that I purchased it!). Heather and Jessica are more lovely, bubbly, and brilliant than I imagined.
It was so inspiring to meet two women who are passionate about what they do and who have turned that passion into a rich, rewarding and exciting career. It’s something we think everyone needs to find – something you love, that you are passionate about that you would do even if you weren’t paid for it… And then figure out how to make a living doing it. Finding your bliss, and then living the life you dream about? There is no better definition for living la vie en luxe. Thanks for the inspiration, Fug Girls!
You can pick up a copy of the book everywhere books are sold, or head over to WWKD and enter to win an exclusive autographed copy! The contest is still open for the next couple of days.
