Look, I’m old. I’ve been married for years and back when I was single you didn’t have fun dating apps. You went to bars, hung out at cafés and asked a friend to ask a friend if so-and-so thought you were cute.
When I was in London earlier this year with a colleague from New York, she was telling me all about her Tinder adventures in the Big Apple and I have to admit that this happily married woman yearned for the days of old when I could browse single men like they were a catalogue and then get past the awkward conversation phase by knowing he was interested in me, too, if he had swiped on me. When I told my colleague this, she laughed – saying Tinder was really only a means to a goal, which was to get to my relationship. But I really wanted to swipe through available men!
Since I didn’t want to wind up at the divorce court, I decided to not download and “try out” Tinder just for fun. Besides, truth be told I’d kinda rather have a new boy in my life whose name was Chanel.
Well, enter my new friend Mallzee. Heralded as “The Tinder for Fashion“, it’s essentially a swipe if you like it app for fashion that’s been around in the UK for a few years and is now launching in the US. See something you like? Thumb up and keep swiping. For married ladies like me, it means I can swipe to my little heart, although increasingly small wallet’s, content.
So this holiday season when all my single friends are like “Hey, Amanda, check out this guy. Do we think he’s hot?”, I will be saying in reply “No idea, but wouldn’t this black peplum top look amazing with my gold pencil skirt?” and then swiping on to the next item to add to my shopping list. Because, you know… clothes before bros.
