When Jo Malone released their newest fragrance, Wood Sage & Sea Salt, I was immediately intrigued. (Plus, it did not hurt that our friend Ashley was a huge fan) As someone who has an immense love for the ocean and autumn, this cologne is supposed to “conjure images of moody windswept coasts and waves crashing into shores. Like the scent of driftwood, it has a natural and fresh sophistication”. Um, yes. I would need to smell this.

Not sure about the choice of footwear, or why the bottle is as large as her waist, but I’ll go with it. (Picture from Jo Malone)
I went the day before it was to be fully released to Nordstrom and fell immediately in love. It captured exactly what it said it would and it was a refreshing change from my new normal perfume which is very full of feminine tuberose (Do Son by Diptyque) It didn’t help that I had just returned from a week of spending time at said moody windswept coast on the Oregon shores and was missing the vast, expansive beautiful coastline. Hook, line and sinker – I was buying this.
A girlfriend of mine asked if she would sell like a sailor with this perfume (negative) and then if it smelled like her sea salt spray for her hair (after several sprays of both, we determined there is some overlap) and then asked me why I would want to smell like the beach. It’s not the beach that you will smell like, it’s the English coast in all its majesty. My next step? Bringing the coast home with me with the candles – will be a nice reminder of the sea when the snow starts to fall.
I love this scent so much! So glad I saw this review – it’s so spot on for this scent. There’s something just so haunting and mysterious about it!
