It is no secret that the Refined Girls hate summer. Hate is such a strong word… but yes, we hate summer. Perhaps you count the days until the first pool party bash, but we count the days until the PSL is released (it was released August 26, FYI). As we creep further and further into the autumn calendar, I felt it was time to say our farewells to the summertime.
Things we will miss
Things we won’t miss at all
90 degree week-long forecasts
A lack of soup
Watching our favorite boots collect dust
The way Starbucks iced drinks get all watered down
Short shorts and tight tank tops
Melted ice cream
The lack of weekday TV shows
Putting away our down duvet
The cost of airline tickets
To start fall off right, here are my favorite ways to begin the autumn season:
Pumpkin Spice at Starbucks
In true FWP form, I live and die by the release of the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks. The buttery, spicy, pumpkiny sweet concoction launched 11 years ago and rocked our world. I’ll let you in on a little secret – I never actually order a PSL. Sometimes, I’ll order a skim latte with one pump of pumpkin syrup, or a pumpkin cappuccino. Never iced, always hot – usually at 120 degrees F. Ahhhh… autumn in a cup!
I love candles, and burn them all year long. They give a wonderful warmth to the room, and I still get a thrill from lighting them and blowing them out. My favorites for fall are Diptyque’s Pomander – a cinnamony scent – and William Sonoma’s Chestnut. I have also been known to pick up inexpensive ones at Bath and Body Works, such as their Vanilla Chai candle that literally smells like heaven.
Admittedly, you will see me donning a sweater in early September… even though its a high of 85F. I am sweaty and itchy but blissfully happy. Lightweight sweaters and cardigans are fabulous for those early fall days, when you know its really still summer but wearing a sweater must surely inch autumn along!
