While recently in London for work, I found myself lacking the amount of free shopping time I had initially expected to have. Since I was working, work dinners and evening events were just as important as the day events and not skippable to head out to the long long long long list of shops I wanted to get to. Luckily for me, this problem must exist for other people as there is a mall in the underground of the financial district including a Hobbs store – the store that was highest on my list due to a certain Duchess having been seen wearing several of their pieces.
I found the store by accident while trying to find somewhere to eat a quick lunch between meetings – I actually noticed the huge 50% off sale signs first and my hunger pangs ceased immediately when I saw the great clothes inside. The clothes, oh the clothes, were amazing. While I fell in love with what they call their Occasionwear department, I walked back into the office with a carrier bag under my arm only to have about 10 women of all different shapes, sizes and personalities at my office go “Oooooh! Show me what is in the bag! I love Hobbs!” Seeing as the store has just recently launched in the US, I thought I’d share with you a little more about the store, and what better way to do that than sharing what was in store for Spring 2014?
The store was awash in pastels and muted colours – which made me immensely happy. I love building my wardrobe on well-made, quality clothes in neutral or muted colours and then adding in trendy colours and patterns as accessories. And well-made quality clothes are exactly what Hobbs offers. The clothes were not only cut amazing and supremely flattering, but they are made of really high quality fabric. I wore one of the shirts I purchased on the train to Paris for the weekend and actually had someone come up and ask where the top was from and if they could feel the fabric. Here are some of the Spring looks that I fell in love with:
Thanks to the 50% off sale, I was able to pick up several basic pieces from the Fall/Winter collection as well that will serve me well for years to come. I picked up a cashmere sweater, several long sleeve cotton tops and a silk blouse for work – all in my standard basics colour palette of grey, white and black. And I went beyond my normal basics but in the same palette with a pair of shoes that have since popped up everywhere, the Ellen slipper.
I was reading a magazine at the airport waiting to come home and saw a feature on the best Spring flat shoes and lo and behold, my new Ellen slippers were featured. Call me vain, but I love seeing the things I’ve bought pop up in magazines. I feel so stylin’!
Be sure to check out Hobbs stores wherever you are- they ship worldwide- and they have a pretty awesome Instagram feed (@HobbsVIP) featuring sneak peeks of new collections and style inspirations.
