This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending the launch party of the new Jo Malone “London Rain” scent collection. The collection was first launched in the UK, and has recently made its way across the pond. The closest Jo Malone “shop” was at my local Nordstrom, making this the perfect event for me.
I arrived at 6 PM on the dot, because “fashionably late” is just an excuse to be rude. With that in mind, the event itself was running a few minutes behind. Sigh… at around 6:30, guests were escorted to the behind-the-scenes event space where the launch was taking place. We were ushered into a room, and I was amazed at what I saw.
The whole room was filled with about six round tables, each set for tea, and the whole place had a watercolor theme. The traditional tea sandwiches and cookies were set off by bright water color paint palettes. There were brushes, parchment, and other decor to set the scene. There was a drinks station offering sparkling water and a variety of Mighty Leaf teas. I was in heaven.
In addition to the paint supplies on the table and the water color paintings around the room, there was a
young man eye candy artist in the corner showing us different painting techniques. But this wasn’t a painting event, it was a perfume event. The presentation began by introducing the different scents in the London Rain collection.
The collection was inspired by different rain events throughout the day in England. There was the fresh, early morning dew on the grass, which inspired Rain and Angelica. Wisteria and Violet took notes from rain in the morning, as you leave your house for the day and smell the fresh florals awakened by the shower. Then, in the afternoon, a drenched garden comes to life in White Jasmine and Mint. At midnight, when a heavy shower hits the hot pavement as you try to catch a cab, you can smell the Black Cedarwood and Juniper.
The rest of the event was spent discussing scents and the best places for tea in London. We layered, played, and painted. I was quite proud of my sheep during an afternoon rain storm, and the man candy artist told me they were happy little sheep and appreciated my painting technique.
I ended up leaving the event barely scathed, with a bottle each of White Jasmine and Mint and Orange Blossom colognes, plus my swag bag of deluxe lotion, shower gel, and perfume samples, and a whole bag of smaller trial vials in various scents. The new collection is absolutely beautiful, and layers so well with your own scents. I could rave about it all day, but you really must smell the ultra-sexy Black Cedarwood and Juniper and the fresh, beautiful, Springtime scent of Wisteria and Violet.
