Lately, I have been spending my mornings with a warm cup of coffee perched in front of the television, enjoying a variety of morning shows, cooking shows, or lifestyle shows. With the holiday season upon us, I am inundated with recipes for friends and family. I love the different variations on turkey (chestnut stuffing, lemon brine, roasted, fried, etc), the many options for side dishes (Roquefort mashed potatoes, lemon basil green beans, homemade cranberry sauce, beer bacon cornbread), and the cocktail recipes a plenty (eggnog, mulled wine, spiced cider, hot toddies). There are so many fabulous ideas out there.
Except for dessert.
For dessert, they make pie. Apple pie or pumpkin pie. Maybe pecan pie. But just pie. I needed a holiday dessert idea that felt new, fresh and chic!
There is a difference between tradition and boredom. Yes, we always have turkey on Thanksgiving – that is a tradition. But if you have pie at every single holiday party from November 1st to January 1st, its no wonder we don’t eat it any other time of year.
So I knew I had to share a favorite recipe, which is both fabulous and delicious. Behold…mulled apple compote!
