When we first moved into my house several years ago, we had upsized from a condo that we had sold fully furnished to the new owner, meaning we literally moved into the house with boxes of stuff… And nothing else. Thanks to friends getting rid of stuff (and the good people at Ikea), we were able to furnish enough of our house to not look like transient people, but we had rooms which still remained completely empty. One such room was an upstairs bedroom which was quickly filled with my insanely large wardrobe and became what I lovingly referred to as my Lady Lair™
Lady Lair \ˈlā-dē\ler\: A place of luxurious lounging, resplendent relaxation and posh privacy for a woman of refinement.
Fast forward to today and while we’ve only added one small extra inhabitant, the rooms are now all full. Gone is the manly man cave once inhabited by my husband (now called the Baby Playroom) and the Lady Lair™ made way for a guest bedroom. My husband has reclaimed a man cave of sorts in his office, but I remained lacking of an area to call my own until… I remembered I had a deck off my master bedroom.
This deck has an interesting history at my house, from it looking like it might fall off when we moved in all the way to my mini-makeover a couple of summers ago which included the addition of a chair/table/ottoman and some flowers. I really let it slip into complete disrepair again after the baby was born and I had no time to spend lounging on a deck. But lacking space in the house for a Lady Lair™ left me no option but to seek an area of my own outside of the box house.
Deciding the summer was already well underway and there was no time better than the present, I began work on turning a gross old deck into a revamped and refined Lady Lair™. I wrote out all the steps and began the work – all showcased in the absolutely genius video you can see here:
The next steps were prettying it up and then enjoying! All in all, I spent a grand total of $15 ($7 for the rug, $3 for the solar lights and $5 on the plants) and love the new changes. Full pictures coming soon!
We'd love to Hear From You!
