There are moments in our lives that shape us forever. They shape our faith, our values, our dreams, and our lives. For me, one of those moments happened at Disney World. I waited in line in a mermaid costume on a sunny November day outside Ariel’s grotto.
When it was finally my turn, I got to meet my absolute favorite princess, Ariel. I wiggled up onto that seashell with her and she put her arm around me. She smiled and showed what a true princess she was. And then she looked at me very sincerely and said something that has stuck with me for a very long time. She said “you look just like me! You must be my sister! And that makes you a princess, too!”
She even wrote it in my autograph book: “Thank you for coming to visit me! Love, Your sister, Ariel.”
Yes, I am Ariel’s sister.
That was not the birth of my “princess complex,” but it certainly was a turning point. I was a princess! I know this because an actual princess told me this.
These moments shape our lives and warm our hearts. Imagine a little seven-year-old redheaded girl in a polyester mermaid costume sitting next to Ariel, being told she’s a real, live princess. Ah, if only YouTube existed back then.
I found this video and it reminded me of my own princess story, but this one is so much better. Watch for yourself – but grab some tissues and maybe brew a cup of tea first. It’s a good one.
