Summer is finally here. Nothing makes me happier than seeing little ones filled with excitement as the final days of school draw near. To them, it means sleeping in, splashing in the pool, trips to the beach, quality time with mummy, daddy, or grandma, and no school. To me, summer has different meaning. It means beach days, iced lattes, sunscreen and caftans. Yes ladies, caftan season is finally here.
There is something absolutely summer-stylish about caftans. They are just so…summer, resort, tropical, warm, breezy, sandy, sunny, wonderful. They are almost completely shapeless, making them perfect for any woman, yet they are marvelously stylish. And they are incredibly chic.
When I think of caftans, I think of Roberto Cavalli. I think of the storefront on 5th Avenue, just down the road from Saks. The elaborate, rhinestone elephant door knockers open up to a bright, bold, colorful wonderland. Even in Christmastime, it feels like a luxury cruise. Exquisite prints, a rainbow of colors, and the most supple fabrics line the store. And if Cavalli does one thing right, he does caftans.
I am in love with this 100% silk, one shouldered, Roberto Cavalli drape dress in a drop-dead gorgeous floral pattern. It makes such a glamazon statement – I have arrived, and I have brought the style. I would simply have to fly my caftan and myself off to St. Barths for fabulous parties with fabulous people who wear fabulous caftans. It reminds me of the one Tori Spelling wore to her vow renewal.
While I may not be investing in an $800 Roberto Cavalli caftan, I might pick up this one from Josie. With a fantastic pair of Jack Rogers, this ensemble will take me from beach, to vacation, to Target, to backyard barbecue. Caftans are for the super glam girls, from day to night – home to vacation – casual to fabulous.
To really start summertime, I leave you with this… Rock on, luxury ladies. Go and dance, with sangria in your hand and flowers in your hair.
